Short Poems (Karla Reyes)

#1)

Daffodils Develop Too”

Daffodils develop too,

Why shouldn’t you?

Daffodils are great to look at,

Why shouldn’t you be great to look at?

An inspiration to look at, swaying through

Windy storms. I’m sure God created

Daffodils for a reason and a purpose,

Don’t you think the same for you too?

#2)

Walking Like a Tomb

They said you weren’t going to amount to nothing,

But I think differently. They said you were garbage,

But I think profoundly differently. See, we aren’t the same,

You and I. That’s what makes us ‘beings.’ They said your

Poetry was rigged. But it became your escape route from

Walking like a tombstone everywhere you go. Tell those thoughts

To calm down, there’s shoes to be filled.

#3)

Take a Seat, Kindly Speaking

Take a seat, allow me to reintroduce myself.

A seat can resemble a position or a calling. But what

If it was meant to resemble sitting before God’s presence,

Looking for answers in the unknown? Take a seat,

Take a seat, take a seat, take a seat. But where exactly is

That seat? Looking for purpose looks easy from a screen,

Doing the purpose is the challenging part.

My Alfa & Omega, Beginning & End

God is restorer, friend, beginning and end.

To some an atheistic approach, to me?

A holy, set-apart approach. I’ve been meaning to

Wonder… do different belief systems in the mind

Automatically mean two different lifestyles? I guess

We were never meant to be. Since it’s obvious God

Became my Alfa and Omega, Beginning & End.

#5)

She Shined Like The Stars In The Skies

“God became my ultimate Savior,” she said.

She swayed her pretty long dress to the sound of

The beach waves, she knew this would happen.

How so? It’s very so. She decided it was her destiny,

To save countless of lives just by shining like the stars

In the skies. She knew, she knew it was time. She was

just waiting for someone to confirm it.

#6)

Cleanse Me With Hyssop & I’ll Be White As Snow

‘Cleanse me with hyssop & I’ll be white as snow,’ said no one ever.

There’s something about the profoundness of the hyssop. Used as

A cleansing method in biblical ancient times. But how about now?

What’s it for? I wonder if anyone cared to ask those questions.

‘I care, I care a lot,’ said my inward self. ‘I do, I do care a lot.’ Care enough

To know why hyssop was used for cleansing purposes and demonstrations.

#7)

Stars Spangled Banner

‘Aid, aid, aid.’ What is that? History speaks on wars, crimes rates going up,

social gatherings increasing in numbers. But what if all of this reminds us of

The ancient history times? Bad enough we survived a holocaust period in our history,

What else is there to survive? It’s clear life is about survival, but what about the end

From the beginning? Where is Jesus in all of this madness? Crying out seems like a

Lullaby not an answered prayer, *sighs*…. ‘Heaven Awaits’ indeed. Maybe we should

Focus on the Star Spangled Banner more than our neighbors affairs. That sounds

Amazing. Pausing the cares to focus on singing a history song that goes back in

Years to fulfill patriotism terms in a country well-settled, well-grounded in what I like

To call: ‘wisdom-wealth.’ Sing the Star-Spangled Banner tune. That should distract

You from the loud noise of people’s affairs.

Militia Vains

Little girl sits in back of a car and dreams of being just like her Dad.

Strong, yet not perfect. Tall with a Bible in his hands, looking for answers

In the vast unknown. Desperation and curiosity to know what He’s reading

Steeping through her vains. Looking with big eyes and anticipation what would

Become next of her Dad’s journey reading the Bible. She comes to read about Moses

& how valiant he was waking up to a broken system in his times just so he can find

Answers in his rightful ways. Little girl’s dad reminds her of Moses. Valiant indeed.

Little girl fulfilled her dreams, opening that Bible gave her a passion to proclaim,

Indeed; call her militia vains.

Controversial Poetry

She wanted to, she didn’t want to.

She kept going, she kept looking.

“Are there people like me out there?”

She would ask within herself.

I guess the story is an unknown journey.

She’s at peace to continue in an unknown

Vast fast-paced tech world.

#10)

Can I Be An Alien? Maybe I Am

“She doesn’t fit in,” she said.

She doesn’t want to anyways.

What does she care so much about fitting in.

They try to make her into her portion of shares.

But she’s no portion of shares. She’s an old soul.

Wise in years yet so young. But brokenness made

Her feel like an alien, maybe she is. But if she is, then

What will I be? An alien too. After all, church does speak

About being citizens of heaven. That sounds delightful indeed.

If Fear Had a Middle Name

If fear had a middle name,

What will become of me, or us?

If fear had a middle name, what will it be?

If fear had a middle name, who’s to blame?

If fear had a middle name, the grounds to

Success is indeed obedience to God.

If fear had a middle name? It won.

Fear didn’t win, so it has no middle name.

My Last Retreat

Dear last retreat,

It’s been fun.

Laughter, tears of joy, tears of frustration have been wonderful.

I know you don’t understand what you’re going through or feeling.

You just became obedient to a God unknown. They tell you to fall

In love with God and it’s weird because you did. You did when you

Were just a little girl. The sounds of His majesty infiltrating residence

As a Prince of princes’s and a King of king’s as Lord and Savior. It

Sounded like a movie, but I guess I was dreaming. Someone please

Pinch me so I can wake up, thank you & please. ‘Till next time, ‘last retreat.’

It’s been a wonderful experience. Tapping in to existence now. Old French, ‘oui oui.’
